Yesterday I finished my daily devotional of Pastor Rick Warren’s teaching. It was one of three yearly devotionals I read on a daily basis. I enjoyed Rick Warren’s teaching message so much, I signed up for another year.
Today’s message speaks about the future. Where do yourself wanting to go? What are your future plans? Pastor Warren’s message said this, “You will never reach a vague goal. The more general it is, the less power it has. But the more specific it is, the more power it has in your life. Ask yourself these four questions: 1) What do I want to be? 2) What do I want to do? 3) What do I want to have? 4) Why do I want it?”
I had never thought about it that way; to be more specific. Yes I have goals for my future but they have always been high goals, general goals. To be happy, to find satisfaction, to write more, to complete my next book. These are some of the goals I’ve set for myself over the years. To be more specific I need to achieve some working milestones.
Warren says, “You can’t just know the what, you need to know the why; that’s your motivation. If you don’t know why, you will give up when it gets tough.”
Do you have any goals? Do you know why you want to achieve them? What is your motivation behind the goal? Knowing what drives you towards your passion opens your mind to achieving the goal you set before you.
“You don’t need to focus on the how for now because, once you figure out the why, God will show you how,” says Warren. “He will help you solve the problems that stand in the way of your goal.”
What a great message to kick off my new year daily devotional. Be blessed dear reader. I hope you are striving to reach your goal. I’m on my way to figuring out my motivations and I’ll be setting some specific goals for my future. How about you?
