Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Quotes: Honoring His Legacy

Martin Luther King leaning on a lectern. Deuts...

“I just want to do God’s will,” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said. “And He’s allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I’ve looked over, and I’ve seen the Promised Land.”

Of all the inspirational quotes I find and read the ones which impact me the most are those spoken in truth.

In honor of his legacy and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, here are several inspirational quotes I’ve found that speak to the human soul.

The civil rights leader’s words still hold true in present day. “We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people.”

One cannot but think Dr. King was ahead of his generation.  A minister, he referred to himself in these words, “In the quiet recesses of my heart, I am fundamentally a clergyman, a Baptist preacher.”

Yet the impact he had on this country was profound. He spoke of injustice. He spoke in truth and in love. He was a man of God, a soldier in God’s army doing what he was called to do.

Consider the words when he says, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

Of all the things Dr. King stood for and reflecting on his inspiring, “I Have a Dream” speech, he knew the truth when he said, “Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
